In ancient times, people were dependent on the sun to grow their crops and provide light and heat. As the days got shorter, they anticipated an end to their world, with the loss of the sun. To ease their fears, the priests and goddesses called them together to meet in the oak grove where they would dance and sing together, to welcome the Sun King who would return, starting the following day.

Lyrics

WINTER SOLSTICE - Carlene Thissen

VERSE 1
Fear not, my gentle faerie friends,
The sun’s not dead, but born again
Welcome him with mother earth
Joyously, sing the new sun’s birth

CHORUS
Come ye to the old oak grove
in darkest winter, void of Light
New sun brings us life and love,
Shortest day, the Longest night.

VERSE 2
Come, so ye may not regret
The forest folk will ne’er forget
Gnomes and faeries still remember
Sacred Solstice, deep December

CHORUS
Come ye to the old oak grove
in darkest winter, void of Light
New sun brings us life and love,
Shortest day, the Longest night.

VERSE 3
The shortest day, the longest night
Will soon be gone with sun’s new light
Fears and cares will melt away
As darkness slowly turns to day

CHORUS
Come ye to the old oak grove
in darkest winter, void of Light
New sun brings us life and love,
Shortest day, the Longest night.
