Why is the composer listed “unknown?” I believe it is because the song was a gift from God.
Quite a number of years ago, I was the main contact in the English choir at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Immokalee. The week before Easter, Father Fred Conoscenti, our priest at that time, handed me a pencil-handwritten copy of a sheet of music with single notes, lyrics, and chords. No composer, no title. I took it home and played it, and the following week we sang it at Mass on Easter Sunday.
WHO WROTE THIS SONG? It is an incredibly meaningful song that should be heard. I tried for months to track down the composer (Father Fred didn’t remember) and finally explained the situation to the copyright office and they said I could copyright the arrangement and performance. But I really hope we can find the original composer to give that person credit for this amazing work.
The song is a duet between Mary Magdalene, who was the first person to find Jesus’ empty tomb, and the Risen Jesus whom she at first thinks is a gardener. My friend Stuart Shelton recorded and produced the song. Mike Blasucci played guitar and Tom Porter added cello.

The lyrics are sung my me (Mary’s part) and Jesus is sung by Rubin (Benny) Reyna, a close friend from the choir in Immokalee.
Humorous note: Most of the song was recorded in Stuart Shelton’s studio, except for Benny’s vocals. He’s exceptionally busy in Immokalee, so I brought my portable Tascam recorder out there. We determined that the ladies room in the catechism building had the best acoustics. Benny put on earphones to hear the accompaniment music, and sang the Jesus part there in the ladies room.
Were we surprised when we opened the ladies room door to a priest and a hallway full of people who were applauding!

Lyrics

GO OUT AND TELL MY PEOPLE
Author: Unknown
Arrangement Copyright 2010 Carlene Thissen

VERSE 1 - Mary Magdalene

If you know where they have laid him
Tell me that I may go, and take him away
He spoke to me: "Mary," …. "Mary"
I answered “Master," and He said:

CHORUS - Jesus

Go out and tell my people I have risen
Go out and tell my people that I live
For I have walked before you, into Jerusalem
And I will walk with you into my Father's home.

VERSE 2 - Mary

I went out in search of His people
“I have seen the Lord I know that He lives..”
They could not believe me - their hearts were troubled
As I spoke to them the words He spoke to me

CHORUS - Jesus

Go out and tell my people I have risen
Go out and tell my people that I live
For I have walked before you, into Jerusalem
And I will walk with you into my Father's home.

VERSE 3 - Mary

That evening He stood among us
As he spoke to us our hearts were at peace
“Go out to the whole world and tell all creation
The message I have given you to day”

CHORUS:

Go out and tell my people I have risen
Go out and tell my people that I live
For I have walked before you, into Jerusalem
And I will walk with you into my Father's home.

CODA:
And I will walk with you into my Father's home.
