Father Richard Sanders, previously a Trappist Monk, founded Naples' first Spanish Mission for farm workers at St. Peter the Apostle Church in 1978, and was later transferred to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Immokalee. He worked there alone in the early 1980s at the height of immigration of farm workers who came to plant and harvest expanding agriculture in Southwest Florida. In 1985, at age 47, he died of a massive heart attack and subsequent strokes. The people of Immokalee loved him so much that they petitioned the county and the diocese to allow him to be buried next to his church, where he lay for 30 years. A thousand people came to his funeral. Join us as we learn about this remarkable man's desire to make a difference in the world. Carlene narrates Father Sanders' story with pictures and songs that describe the man and the people who loved him.
